I have a long-standing obsession with the wax printed cloth that has become associated with West Africa. There is something so effervescent about them. These are images that I took myself when visiting the Vlisco archive in Helmond as part of my research.

They have a lack of preciousness that gives them energy and life. Often humorous, they create a light-hearted comparison to the Western fashion industry. For me, I love the fact that they do not need to be taken too seriously.
