Latvian painter Henrijs Preiss now lives and works in Hackney. These pieces were exhibited as part of the ‘Newspeak – British Art Now’ exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery.

There is something so evocative and alluring about these paintings. The shapes and powerful lines create strong associations with masonic art or the eye of providence. The overall impact is quite eerie, they both draw you in and create discomfort. I love his combination of sharp line and colour with worn and textural surfaces.
